Compute Independent Chip Model equity for tournament final tables. The Malmuth-Harville recursive algorithm translates chip stacks into prize-pool dollar equity, accounting for the asymmetric payout structure that defines tournament economics. Use this to evaluate ICM pressure on calling and pushing decisions, to negotiate deals, or to sanity-check your strategic intuition against the math.

2 to 9 players. Order matters — the first stack is Player 1 in the results below.

1st place first, then 2nd, etc. Should cover at least as many positions as players.

Reading the table: Chip share is the percentage of total chips a player holds. ICM share is the percentage of the prize pool assigned to that player by the model. The delta shows how ICM redistributes equity — chip leaders have lower ICM share than chip share (their excess chips are worth less per chip than the average), and short stacks have higher ICM share than chip share (each chip is worth more when survival uncertainty dominates). The redistribution is the structural reason ICM tightens calling ranges at final tables.

How to read the results

  • Chip share is each player's percentage of total chips in play.
  • ICM equity is the dollar value the model assigns to each player's chip stack given the payout structure. Chip leaders typically have lower ICM share than chip share (chips beyond the threshold of guaranteed cashes deliver diminishing dollar value). Short stacks typically have higher ICM share than chip share (each chip is worth more when survival uncertainty dominates).
  • ICM vs chip delta shows the magnitude of the redistribution. Large positive deltas for short stacks indicate steep ICM pressure on the chip leader (they should call short-stack shoves tighter than chip-equity math suggests). Large negative deltas for chip leaders indicate they should not over-aggressively risk their lead.
