Binance Blocks HTX, 15 Others Under EU Russia Sanctions

Binance Blocks HTX, 15 Others Under EU Russia Sanctions

Binance will block transactions with HTX and 10 additional exchanges as of August 2026, bringing its total list of restricted platforms to 16, in response to EU sanctions targeting Russia-linked entities, according to The Block.

Why It Matters

For crypto bettors and iGaming operators that route funds through affected exchanges, the change creates an immediate liquidity problem: deposits or withdrawals touching any of the 16 flagged platforms will fail on Binance. HTX — formerly Huobi — carries significant volume among Eastern European and CIS gamblers, so sportsbooks and casinos that accept crypto from that corridor face potential payment disruptions. Operators using Binance Pay or Binance's B2B settlement rails should audit their payment flows now. Ignoring the restriction risks frozen funds, not just declined transactions.

Context

The EU expanded its Russia sanctions regime to cover crypto exchanges it deemed conduits for sanctions evasion, pressuring compliant platforms to cut ties with listed counterparties. Binance, which has spent the past two years rebuilding its regulatory standing after a $4.3 billion U.S. DOJ settlement in November 2023, has strong incentives to demonstrate proactive compliance. Five of the 16 exchanges on its block list were already restricted before this week's announcement, per The Block.

What's Next

Binance has not published a definitive effective date beyond "as of August 2026," so operators should treat the restriction as live immediately. Watch for further EU sanctions list expansions — each addition triggers a fresh compliance deadline across all regulated exchanges.
